Penmoelallt, 13 January 2024

Cyfarthfa castle greeted 18 happy ramblers (including welcome guests Charlie, Elouise, Gemma, Andrew and Debbie) for today’s walk. In cold but dry conditions, we started off through the park and up Cefn high street to cross the newly-opened road bridge. Turning left, we headed towards the heads of the valley road but then turned right past the houses and down the steps to the navvies path which was once the trackbed for the railway to the reservoirs. After taking the obligatory group picture on the bridge, we started the long steady climb along Craig Penmailard, past the statue of the lady to turn East to Penmoelallt. Just above the farm, we lunched and then carried on to cross under the Brecon road and head towards the cemetery where we took the road back to the Castle. A big thanks to Simon for organising and planning the walk so successfully and to all for the great company.
