Goytre Wharf and Holy Well, 14 January 2023

Goitre Wharf welcomed 18 hardy Merthyr Valley Ramblers (including welcome guests Gillian, Hillary and Michael) on today’s 9.5 mile walk. In cold but mainly dry weather, we made our way past Pentre farm to the base of Pentre hill then headed South to the Holy Well and a welcome cuppa a little further on. Then, we headed South West between Mynydd Garn-wen and Drain eos along muddy and waterlogged paths to Tir-croes Bleddyn where we had lunch. We silver surfers then paddled down the running river Roman road (see video and pictures) East to the welcome turnoff and headed North past Lambrook to turn Eastward and cross-country to the canal. It was then flat all the way back to the start. Ten stiles and uncounted streams forded made this a challenging but ultimately satisfying walk, well led by John and the great company, who’s spirits never wavered - well done all!
