A stroll to the Foel, 28 October 2023
Today, 11 hardy Merthyr Valley Ramblers convened at the car park in Hirwaun for this morning’s group walk. The original plan was to “Stroll to the Foel” but this week’s weather and how things were looking meant a change of plan for first time leader Jenny. This may have been Jenny’s first walk lead for the group but by already having a backup walk in reserve we knew we were in safe hands. We made our way toward the new A465 before heading north towards Penderyn and a loop taking in St Cynog’s church. We then made our way back towards Hirwaun along the Mineral Line, cutting through the old Iron Works before returning to the car park. We covered 8 miles in total and the weather was mostly kind to us, the walk was made even more interesting by the many historical facts Jenny bestowed upon us, with additional facts added by Morfydd who was also very familiar with the area. We had a great time and enjoyed the company of our fellow ramblers. We hope to see you all again soon for another adventure!.
